Nosara Community Spotlight: Nosara Animal Care and Puppy Yoga

Downward dog took on a whole new meaning at Sendero Hotel!

This past June and July, our wellness studio was filled with paws-itive vibes during our Puppy Yoga classes, where playful puppies from Nosara Animal Care (NAC) roamed freely among the yogis. With three of these lovable puppies finding their forever homes, the sessions were not only uplifting for the mind, body, and soul but also heartwarming experiences that supported the invaluable work of NAC.

Nosara is renowned for its community’s focus on wellness, which extends to our animal population—both wildlife and domesticated pets. There is a compassionate community spirit that lies within the heart of Sendero Hotel and Nosara, Costa Rica in general. Nosara Animal Care leads the way in transforming the lives of stray and neglected animals in the area, inviting everyone to join in their compassionate efforts to better the lives of dogs and cats.

Founded in 2008 by Canadian Sarah Foster, this Costa Rican-based animal welfare organization is much more than an animal rescue; it is an integral part of the Nosara family. NAC rescues and rehabilitates abandoned, mistreated, neglected, or injured animals and supports fosters who provide these animals with a safe haven until they find their lifelong homes.

Through their impactful “Super Dueños” program, NAC is planting the seeds of compassion within the Nosara area. They educate school-aged children about the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect, the benefits of spaying and neutering, and how to be caring and responsible pet owners. This education is helping to create a new quality of life for animals in the area.

NAC also provides a sustainable community outreach program, organizing and sponsoring low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinics throughout the year, as well as supporting veterinary services for at-risk animals in low-income homes. Without these programs, many homes might resort to drastic measures when faced with unwanted litters or sick animals. NAC’s NO-KILL policy ensures that injured and homeless animals are cared for, giving them another chance at life.

Operating without a shelter facility, Nosara Animal Care relies heavily on loving volunteers who open their homes to foster these homeless or severely neglected/abused dogs and cats. While NAC helps supply food and veterinary care during their temporary stay, they often face severe financial strain. It’s through the generosity of the supportive community of Nosara and its visitors that this non-profit organization continues to save lives, ensuring that no animal is left to die alone on the streets.

There are many ways to support NAC and make a lasting positive impact on both the animals and the local community of Nosara long after your stay at Sendero Hotel. From a recurring monthly donation of as little as $25 to a “saving a life” donation of $100 or a $250 donation that supports the “Super Dueños” program in 20 local classrooms, there are numerous ways to become a Nosara Animal Care Hero.
