Ostional Wildlife Refuge

The Ostional Wildlife Refuge is another area to explore, only about 30 minutes north. It is often referred to as one of the largest nesting sites in the world where you can see Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. Exploring this area between August and December allows you to see these large, ancient-looking sea creatures coming to the sandy beaches to lay eggs.

You could also see how these amphibians hatch and make their way back to the sea three months later, often happening until March. Remember, it’s best to respect the refuge guidelines and go with a local guide. To find out if the turtles are laying eggs or hatching during your stay, just ask our team.

Continue 15 minutes past Ostional, and you will reach San Juanillo, a charming fishing village (located 45 minutes north of Nosara). This beach offers a serene and picturesque getaway.
